In February 100s of young people took over the Epstein theatre for the 3 day NOW Festival. Each group had spent months rehearsing a devised performance based around the theme ‘Mental Health and the Rights of the Child’.

The UNCRC have 42 rights that cover all aspects of a child’s life and set out the civil, political, economic, social and cultural rights that all children everywhere are entitled to. Each group picked a right to use as a stimulus for their performance. The pieces of dance, drama and film explored the right and the impact that right has on a young person’s mental health, especially if that right is taken away from them. 20 schools and youth groups took part in the festival who produced 24 different performances that included issues about the refugee crisis, substance abuse, neglect, the media, religion, and many other issues.
